Heritage Consultancy
Expert advice to guide sustainable change in historic environments
Understanding the importance of buildings, monuments and their contexts is fundamental to our work.
As trained Heritage Consultants, it is the first consideration in our management of the historic environment. It informs how we might balance the conservation of these irreplaceable assets with current and sustainable needs, to ensure they remain relevant to the communities they serve.
We work with a range of prestigious clients including private owners and estates, charitable trusts, churches, community groups, commercial developers, and local authorities, providing expert and bespoke advice and approaches to the evolution of our built heritage.
Our work is grounded in the knowledge of our sites, enabling us to appropriately develop, mould and deliver the vision of our clients. Through the undertaking of on-site surveys and analysis, alongside historic and archival research, we are adept at determining the significance of our built fabric and using this as a basis from which to craft informed, appropriate and sustainable solutions. This research-based approach is applied to design projects across the office, together with stand-alone documents that support clients in the management of their historic assets.
Feasibility Studies
We undertake feasibility studies on a complete range of heritage assets including listed buildings; locally protected buildings; scheduled monuments; registered historic parks and gardens ands; and historic landscapes. At this early stage we appraise different options for intervention, which help inspire and evolve our clients’ vision. These range in scale and impact and, seek to establish and define what is possible and appropriate for historic sites and their contexts.
Heritage Impact Assessments
Heritage Impact Assessments are an essential requirement of the planning process for applications affecting heritage assets. These statements describe how proposals will impact the significance of our heritage, and how appropriate mitigation measures might be implemented to address this. Our team prepare and advise on heritage statements and impact assessments for architectural projects and also provide these services in conjunction with architects and clients who may not have this skillset in-house. Our Conservation Management Plans are developed as a tool to provide an informed standpoint, from which the future approach and strategy towards some of our most significant heritage assets might be agreed with other interested parties. We have experience in developing conservation plans for a diverse range of buildings which enables us to take a comprehensive and collaborative approach in understanding what is special and valuable about an asset, and how to conserve and manage it.
